Special Stitch
BOBBLE STITCH (BO)

*(YO, insert your hook into the designated stitch and draw up a loop, YO and draw through 2 loops on your hook). Repeat 3 more times. Now you should have 5 loops on your hook. YO and draw through all 5 loops on your hook to complete your bobble. Push bobble to the outside.

Techniques
JOGLESS BLO (OPTION)

To create a jogless join for the BLO rnd, pull up a loop in the last st of the rnd and remove the hook (picture A). Insert the hook from back to front in the first st of the next rnd (picture B). Draw up the unworked loop (picture C) and pull through the st (picture D), pull tight. Sc in the BLO of this st (this space will be tight) and each remaining st of the rnd (pictures E - F).

SEAMLESS COLOR CHANGE (OPTION)

This technique requires cutting and tying ends to reduce the typical stair step color change look. Please choose a method that works best for you.

With the first color, make a loose sl st in the last st of the rnd. Do not tighten the sl st yet. Leave approximately 4-5" tail and cut the yarn (picture G). With a sl knot on the hook, attach the second color with a sc three sts to the left of the last st of the previous rnd, this will be the start of the new rnd (picture H). Sc in each st of the rnd taking care to sc through the loose sl st. When you get back to the beginning st of this rnd, pull the loose sl st tight and tie the ends from the sl st and beginning sc together (pictures K-L). Repeat this process each time a new color is attached (pictures M-O).

NOTE: The new color doesn’t have to be attached exactly three sts to the left every time, as long as it is attached at least 2 sts to the left or to the right of the last sl st of the previous rnd. I like to attach the new color to a random st on the back of the leg to keep all the color changes as hidden as possible. Varying yarns, yarn weights and tension can play a role in the overall look of the color changes.

TIP: If you decide to use the “stair step” method when changing colors, try to line up the color changes in a straight line on the back of the leg.

Yarn

• Indiana Dunes (Color A - shoes and stem)
• Joshua Tree (Color B - body and ears)
• Haleakala (Color C - stripes and leaves on neck) • Yosemite (Color D - pumpkin head)

9" tall x 6" wide

Comparable Yarn Substitutions:
• Lion Brand Basic Stitch Anti Pilling Yarn (4mm hook)

Other yarns I love:
• Premier Basix Worsted (4mm hook)
• Premier Parfait Chunky (4mm hook)
• Loops & Threads Sweet Snuggles Lite (7mm hook)

Notes
This is an intermediate pattern, some amigurumi experience would be helpful. However, reach out with any questions or concerns. Please read through the entire pattern before beginning. This pattern is written in US terminology. It is made in continuous rounds. Do not ch 1 or sl st at the end of each round unless instructed to do so. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round. Stitch count is in ( ) at the end of each round. Make sure your count is correct before moving to the next round. I start with 8 in the mc for rnd 1 and for most of the pieces in this pattern. If you would prefer to start with 6 in the mc for rnd 1 and inc in each st for rnd 2 (for 12 sts), that works too!

Let’s Get Started!

Arms
With a 3.5mm hook and Color B | make 2
Rnd 1: sc 8 in mc (8 sts)
Rnd 2: [sc, inc] x 4 (12 sts)
**Lightly stuff the arms through rnd 7 as you go.
Rnds 3-16: sc in each st (12 sts) ••14 rnds••
Rnd 17: dec x 6 (6 sts)

F/O. I like to leave the arms open, but you can pinch the opening & add 3 sc across to close if you prefer. The arms will be joined as you crochet the body. Leave a few inches for the tail (picture 1).

Ears
With a 3.5mm hook and Color B | make 2
Rnd 1: sc 4 in mc (4 sts)
Rnd 2: [sc, inc] x 2 (6 sts)
Rnd 3: [2 sc, inc] x 2 (8 sts)
Rnd 4: [3 sc, inc] x 2 (10 sts)
Rnd 5: [4 sc, inc] x 2 (12 sts)
Rnd 6: [sc, inc] x 6 (18 sts)
Rnds 7-14: sc in each st (18 sts) ••8 rnds••

Pinch the opening closed and sc 9 across the top (picture 2). Fold the ear and add 4 sc across to shape the ear (picture 3). F/O leaving a few inches for the tail. The ears will be attached as you crochet the head (picture 4).

Legs, Body & Head
With a 3.5mm hook and Color A
Starting from the bottom and working up to the head. If you use safety eyes, insert them between rnds 47 & 48 with about 5 sts between depending on the size used. Placement could vary depending on the size eyes you choose. The legs, arms and ears will be attached as you crochet the body. Take care to insert the hook into the front and back sts of the limbs when attaching them to the body. It is very important to line up all the pieces. Due to tension, stuffing and the type of yarn used, the exact placement may vary slightly. Adjust the st marker as needed.

Rnd 1: sc 8 in mc (8 sts)
Rnd 2: [sc, inc] x 4 (12 sts)
Rnd 3: [sc, inc] x 6 (18 sts)
Rnd 4: [2 sc, inc] x 6 (24 sts)

**Rnd 5 will be worked in the BLO. Please refer to the jogless join BLO method above. The foot will be created in rnds 6-7. The dec sts should be centered in the front. Please adjust the st marker if needed. Leave the feet unstuffed through rnd 8 so the toe can bend (picture 10).

Rnd 5: sc in the BLO of each st (24 sts) (picture 5)
Rnd 6: 6 sc, [dec] x 6, 6 sc (18 sts)
Rnd 7: 5 sc, [dec] x 4, 5 sc (14 sts)
Rnds 8-10: sc in each st (14 sts) ••3 rnds••

**Rnd 11 will be worked in the FLO sts first to create loops. Each loop is a ch 3 and a sl st in the same st (pictures 6-7). Then, a new color will be attached and worked in the BLO. Place an additional st marker in the BLO of the first st to help identify the sts. Diagram below.

Rnd 11: FLO Rnd - *(Ch 3 and sl st in the next st) repeat 13 more times for a total of 14 small loops. Place the last sl st in the FLO of the first st of rnd 11.

F/O Color A (picture 9). To shape the foot, bend the front area and push up where the dec sts were added in rnds 6- 7 (picture 10). With a sl knot on the hook, attach Color B in the BLO st of rnd 11 where the additional st marker was placed (picture 11).

Rnd 11 (continued): BLO Rnd - With Color B sc in the BLO of each st. (14 sts)
Rnd 12: sc in each st (14 sts)
**Change to Color C. Refer to the seamless color change option above for the stripes on the legs. Stuff the legs as you go.
Rnds 13-14: sc in each st (14 sts) ••2 rnds••
**change to Color B.
Rnds 15-16: sc in each st (14 sts) ••2 rnds••
**change to Color C.
Rnds 17-18: sc in each st (14 sts) ••2 rnds••
**change to Color B.
Rnds 19-22: sc in each st (14 sts) ••4 rnds••

F/O and hide the tail from the first leg. Repeat rnds 1-22 for the second leg, but do not F/O (picture 12).

**Find the middle st on the back of the first leg and place a st marker in the second st to the right of it. Find the middle st on the back of the second leg and place a st marker in the second st to the left. The feet should point away from each other. Add sc sts until you reach the 2nd st to the left of the middle st on the back of the leg (where an additional st marker was placed)(picture 13). Continue stuffing.

Rnd 23: Ch 3 and attach with a sc in the 2nd st to the right of the middle st on the back of the first leg (picture 14). Place a st marker in this st (this is now the first st of the rnd). Continue to sc 13 more sts around the first leg. Place a sc through each of the ch 3 sts (connecting the legs), 14 sc around the second leg, place a sc through each of the ch 3 sts. (34 sts)
Rnds 24-33: sc in each st (34 sts) ••10 rnds••
Rnd 34: [sc, dec] x 10, 4 sc (24 sts)
Rnd 35: [2 sc, dec] x 6 (18 sts)
**The arms will be attached in the next rnd. The arms should hang down on the outside of the body with the working rnd at the top. Tie the yarn ends from the arms together loosely. They should be lined up with the legs. Adjust the st marker if needed.
Rnd 36: 6 sc, attach the first arm with 3 sc through the arm and body, 5 sc, attach the second arm with 3 sc through the arm and body, sc (18 sts)

FO and weave in the ends.

Assembly
• Pin the stem over rnd 55 and sew it in place. Tie the tail from the stem and the tail from the head together and hide them inside the head. Bend the stem to the side to shape (pictures 24-25).

• Use pins as a placeholder for the eyes. The eyes will be embroidered over rnds 47-48 with about 4-5 sts between. Using black worsted weight yarn, wrap the yarn approximately 5 times around per eye. With white worsted weight yarn, working from the bottom of the eye, go up and over 1 st on the outside of each eye (picture 26).

• Use pins as a placeholder for the mouth and embroider the mouth with black worsted weight yarn at a slight slant across rnd 44 with approximately 7 sts between. Use the st between rnds 44 & 45 for the left side of the mouth and the st between rnds 43 & 44 for the right side of the mouth (picture 27).

• With white worsted weight yarn, embroider the tooth in a triangle shape over rnd 44 two sts over from the right edge of the mouth (pictures 28-29).

• Shape the legs (picture 30).
